Welcome Bloggers to Where I Create...

Welcome to my studio... I know many of you have already been here, thanks to the great job Jo Packham and her team from Where Women Create did in this issue. I was thrilled to have a feature article and to get to know such fabulous people from this very special magazine.
Today I hope to show you some shots that didn't make it into the magazine and a little insight on how I organize my studio.
I want to give a big Thank You to Karen at My Desert Cottage for hosting Where Blogger's Create, such a fun event! And for being such a wonderful friend.  Karen's studio also featured in this issue of Where Women Create is fantastic and if you haven't gotten the magazine you are missing out on a wonderful treasure.

My studio is in the backyard facing the house, so I go out my back door across the patio, down the flagstone path to the left, past the fountain, through the French doors and into my little piece of heaven.

Welcome!  Come on in...

Now that you have the lay of the land, it is not a real large space. I have a lot of little wallpaper drawers and suitcases that I keep laces and trims in. I have a thing about storage, no plastic! Just me... I like to find cool vintage storage items. I love the old mercantile feel so I try to have that in the studio. I make displays out of my different treasures that I create with. That way I can see it, which gives me inspiration while making my art.

I love old pictures and have lots of them which I use in my art. Most all the pictures you see in my studio however are of my family.

One of my favorite things to do is combine display with function. A habit from the shop I suppose... A good example is the jar of metal Christmas garland - I love the way it looks through the glass and I have added an old picture of my sister and I opening Christmas gifts. Art and Function!

Another example with the dress form

My grandmother, mother and I fishing.

Of course my studio is clean right now... but I create in a kind of  organized chaos. I like to see lace, trims, buttons, bobbles when I am making something, so I have it around me but pretty.

Are you getting tired yet? If not I would like to show you some of my favorite things...

This old mirror is shaped like an artists pallet so I hung a picture of my dad when he was in art school, he is drawing.

I also love old hardware so I use it whenever I can.

Here are some bracelets I made from old hardware.

Old advertising reverse painted mirror for dress linings.

Wax doll heads and perfume bottles

Linen doll head

Old Christ child head with glass eyes and old tarnished silver.

These are châtelaine purses with silver beading and leather on the backs, if they have a name - I do not know what it is.

Would you care for a cup of coffee... I don't know how that got in there!
Here are just some random images, this post is getting long and I could go on and on and lull you to sleep here. Hey, maybe that's why the coffee is here!

At this point I am going to give you a detour... I know this is long but I don't feel at all right about posting where I create if I do not include the place I spend most of my time creating. It isn't pretty... so brace yourselves we are entering the shop studio.

Ok... that was totally off the cuff, I don't know what made me do that! Obviously I didn't plan that or I would have cleaned it up a little! I have been working on a dozen different projects getting ready for The Creative Connection in September. Which by the way you won't want to miss! And the French Flea Market that Donna at dreyne's is having in July. So anyway it is a mess!

We are back home now and before I go.

I want to say just a little about the creative spirit that lives in me. I believe that we are all creative in some manner, it is a gift from our creator. We were made in the image of God himself and He is the author of all creation. He is a creative God. I am close to Him when I create and all that I am comes from Him. So when I create, it is an expression of the very spirit that dwells in me. Everything that comes from that place is a praise offering to my Heavenly Father and in return I pray the blessings overflow to you. I am so thankful for all that I have and all that is given to me.

I want to thank our lovely host again... Thank you Karen, many blessings to all of you. I hope you enjoyed your visit and I will be looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful creative spaces.

Thanks Jo!

  1. WOW! I have never seen your studio and it simply takes my breath away! I felt like a child in a candy store, but everything was behind a glass case and I couldn't touch a thing! Thank you so much for the inspiration, Marcia

  2. Lovely, just lovely. I loved the little glass display cases especially.

  8. So much beauty in one place. I could not have even imagined it. I am also a believer who feels that because we are made in the image of God, we were made to be creative beings. You said that so perfectly well. I did not participate this year, but if you want a peek at my studio here is the link - http://ladypamelascottage.blogspot.com/2009/07/where-bloggers-create_24.html
    (There are 3 seperate posts)

I'm in studio bliss right now. Thanks for sharing your creative space and your inspiration.

  14. Rebecca,

I have to catch my breath and then go back and peer into every shot. After my first time through what stood out for me, were those purses (heart a flutter) and even more so your connection to your life and memories attached to the objects that surround you. That is very unique, very special, and I"m sure very you!

Now to go back for a second look..and We've just started this hop!

  15. I loved the article in the magazine and I am more than LOVING all the images of your studio shown in this post!!!!

I am in total agreement regarding the use of vignettes for inspiration and old containers for storage!!!!

Oh dear....I am going to have to go back through again - your studio is incredible!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing!!!!

    Romeo and "her"

  18. Rebecca,
What pure JOY to visit your blog this evening...inspiration overload. I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite spot...the gardens leading to the studio or the studio itself. Adored the photo of your father in art school and the way you "framed it"...what a precious photo. Then there's the artist mirror, the linen doll head, the dreamy lace curtains, the purses....Oh my. My sensory receptors are on fire! Beautiful msg as well...I also thoroughly enjoyed the feature article on you in Where Women Create. xo, Sue

    Hugs, Dorthe

  25. Amazing, Rebecca. Just as I suspected. Your home studio is such a beautiful place as is your shop studio. I have wonderful memories of laughing and crafting in your shop studio. This was fun.
    Hope to see you soon!

  26. Rebecca,
Okay, I'm making a little mental note in my head, ranking the studios I've visited & yours wins 'chill factor' award hands down! I've told you before how each & every thing you collect is something I obsess over, so seeing it all in one room is just to much for me to bear. LOL I gotta say, the view from the house out to the studio is AMAZING right there. That would have been enough, the cherub! What a beautiful home. I honed in on the bookcase that had fabric, velvet I think. (gotta get me some of that when I visit) The collection of purses(whatever they were called) wow, & the artist pallet mirror with your Father. the best! Never seen one like it. I know he is one of your artistic muses. All of it beautiful & amazing like you dear friend. Lisa

  27. Like last year, like viewing the pages of the magazine and now, I am forever in love with your magical studio! Even the beautiful flagstone path is gorgeous eye candy to me. I truly love it all! I am so grateful we met last year at this fun party and I'm forever grateful for the friendship that came from it. You are a treasure my friend.

  28. oh I am speechless Rebbecca.. for get a featured article you need your own book! Truly out of the world!

  29. in a word, wow! eye candy galore and love those little purses.

  30. I love the idea of having a studio away from the house. Walking down your path through the beautiful garden to that sweet building must be a daily inspiration. And the interior, wow, I could spend many many happy hours in there just looking through all the beautiful things.

  31. *Yours* is still my all-time favorite...just love all of the vintage goodies you have *everywhere*!
What a place to dream, to play, and to just be...and I love that you gave God the glory!
    Have a wonderful week!

  32. Wonderful as is everything you do!!! I am going to do a recap post about my favorite workspaces and I would like to feature you. Can I use one of your pictures in my post??? Thank you so much. xo Joan@anythinggoes here

  33. Rebecca, your space is so "delicious", I could just dive right in and eat it all up. It is everything I love and how I would like my space to be ultimately. I love how everything is vintage and antique- looking. Thank you for sharing.

  34. Your studio is incredible Rebecca! Love the sepia tones & the antique vibe is charming! And as if your studio wasn't wonderful enough, it's in the most amazing setting. What a joyful walk it must be for you to make each day to your studio.

I had to chuckle over the cup of coffee. My monster (energy drink) made it into a couple of shots. Well, at least it's in a beautiful, vintage glass. LOL

  35. Oh, Rebecca. Your studio is so beautiful before you even get inside. I think I'd find inspiration every time I took this walk and once you get in it is truly magical. I saw your article in the magazine and was truly amazed.

Love the last photo of you and Jo.

    Thanks for the tour.

  36. What beautiful, sweet studios. The article in WWC is delightful; what a pleasant garden. The lack of plastic certainly makes a big difference - it's easier to be vintage and you do that so well. Thank you for the tour!

  37. Glorious ethereal space! A hearty congrats on the article in WWC and thanks for extending the tour here today.

  38. Love, love, did I say love your studio! Oh my gosh, it is like a beautiful oasis.......of inspiration and desire!!!! what a gorgeous place to be creative! Thank you for sharing it, I am in envy Heaven (the good kind)
    Love it!!!!
    Margaret B

  39. The entrance to your studio through the garden is absolutely entrancing. And while I loved your first creative space, there's something about the energy of your non-prepared shop studio that I really enjoy. The painter's-palette-shaped mirror with the picture of your dad is my favorite!

  40. Rebecca...

You know girly...I just have to tell you this...

First, I am FLOORED AGAIN by your beautiful space. No kidding. I'm sitting here thinking that it is the most LOVELY antique shoppe I've NEVER had the pleasure of peeking inside. Truly beautiful and inspired I'm sure by our gracious, loving Lord.

I love the magazine article (fab fab fab) but more than that I loved seeing your smiling face. God is good and faithful to His children.

Last...I just must comment on your faith in the Most High and how you give Him the credit (the glory) for all the things you do. His spirit and love live within you and seeing it does my heart good!

I'm leaving blessed and very, very, VERY inspired.

    Love to you~

  41. Rebecca, I can't really add any words to what has already been commented except to say it is just as beautiful as you and a work of art in itself.
I totally agree on where the inspiration truly comes from. I say all the time that I'm just the typist.
P.S. If you'll just set me up a cot...I'd be in heaven!

  42. OMG! that is a museum of wonderful vintage artifacts, I saw you in the magazine, but there was no where's near this many picture! I am you're newest follower! My sewing room is soooooo boring! but, I would love for you to drop by anyway when you have a minute and need a snooze ZZZZZZ ha!

  43. So pretty! I really enjoyed taking a tour around your work area. It's wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing it.

    Janet's Creative Pillows

  44. WOW! Your creative space is amazing. It is all so very beautiful. You have created a wonderful place to create beautiful art. Thank you for sharing this beauty in your life.

  45. I absolutely love the way you closed your tour, giving thanks to the One who gave you the very creativity we love so much about you!

There's so much to love about your work spaces, but I think I'm fondest of the mirror shaped like an artist's palette. So unique!

Thank you so much for the tour!

  46. Hi Rebecca,

Your studio and workshop overflow with pure vintage goodness. I love that mirror shaped like the artist palette...just so many beautiful things. I truly enjoyed entering your space.

It's such a pleasure to be back for the party again this year and visiting all of the wonderful creative souls and their creative space. Thank you for sharing yours with me.

I would love for you to visit with me and stroll through my studio..it's been a labor of love to put together and now after a year in our home putting everything together as it should be I feel like I can "spread my wings" and fly!

    Have a wonderful day,
    Stephanie ♥

  47. And I was thinking of purging...people that don't create have no clues to the inspiration one needs from the simplest of objects...sure, it may just be stuff, but all has life in it and we see it.

Thanks for the wonderful tour, soon I will have my own on property 'rabbit hole' where a shop and a studio will converge and 'The Fabric of Sweet Repose' will fulfill it's dream...that is, as soon as the carpenters lay it all in place, then MY magic will begin.

We are a special group, us women who create and whose encounters with each other grow day by day. Have a wonderfully blissful Sunday...creating!

  48. What an amazing space filled with so many treasures. Your garden is glorious. What a way to enter.

Be sure to come visit "Summer Sundays". It's all about what summer means to YOU!

    - The Tablescaper

  49. Hi Rebecca
I remember the first time I saw your Studio - at Karen's 1st Where Bloggers Create party and thought it was the most gorgeous Studio spot ever...and I still do! Such beautiful photos...the one of your Mum, Grandma and you fishing is adorable and I love the last one of you and Jo at the door :-)

  50. Rebecca dearest...I just adore you! I am so inspired by you. Not just because you have the most beautiful creative spaces on the planet, but because you also have the most beautiful heart. I can feel it from you and though we have never met in person it doesn't lessen the power of it.
I am so thrilled to see the places that you create. And I so agree that that creativity is a gift from our loving God. Bless you for blessing me! You are truly a lovely soul and I am so thankful to know you and love you.
I could go on and on about all the beauty I found here in your studios, but just know that everything was wonderful and I love it, every bit!

  51. Beautiful stuff as always....I miss my space at that table in the back room. I miss a "class" with you. Hope to see you soon. Susan

    Queen Bee Studio

  55. Rebecca, if I'm ever in your neighborhood I'm going to make sure I have craft supplies with me and I'm going to knock on your door and ask you if I can come in and play all day in YOUR studio! I'll bring tea and cookies too!
    This is wonderful!

  56. Hi Rebecca,
I've been dying all day to come and visit and then I look and you've come and visited me! when there are all those wonderful bloggers out there doing WBC.
It doesn't matter how many times I look at the magazine I see more things I never saw before....you are my inspiration and as soon as I get my garden back into shape I'm tackling my craft room....or maybe I should start with my back room..oy vey!!! You'd have to tie me down and stick needles in my eyes before I'd ever show a picture of this backroom. Your is a dream!!!!
    Ok sorry long comment!!!
    just so jazzed!!!

  57. Hi Rebecca,
Yours is one of the studios I have looked forward to visiting most. Like in opening my little parcels, I usually try to save them until I can't wait any longer (it's the joy in knowing something wonderful is about to be unfolded and enjoyed). You did not fail to amaze, inspire and bring much joy to me. Your space truly speaks to my heart. So many feminine qualities which I love! You bring much inspiration to all who enter here ~ thank you!

  58. Jimeney, holey moley, how wonderful each photo is, each corner, messy or not,,all beautifull Miz Rebecca. I will need to come back with the enlarger and see each and every inch, lovely to walk the path to the studio.
    God Bless

  59. Rebecca~

You floored me last year with your studio space and this year I am blown away!! I feel right at home here ... everything is divine. You are a natural talent, and I can see it runs in the family ... love the picture of your dad and the mirror, how fitting for father's day!

Thank you for all of your inspiration and sharing so openly ... it's appreciated!

  60. Oh sweetie.
I absolutely loved the whole tour. How many wonderful and interesting treasures you have.

My favorite part of the whole post though, was the part about our Father, and how He is the ultimate creator.

I share that with people too. How we are made in His image, and He has given us all some area to be creative in.
I also believe that the gifts and things we have learned, are to be shared with others,
whether it be crafts, or Life's lessons.
He gives me many wonderful opportunities to do that at my little store.

    Thanks so much. Well done!!

    barbara jean

  71. Rebecca, I don't even know where to begin. I've loved your incredible taste from the beginning of time....especially since I've hung on to that gorgeous magazine clipping of your old shop for forever!!! Your studio is just breathtaking, even the one at the shop...I mean it!!! I see so many treasures here and there, everything is so inspiring to me ~ to see these gathered treasures while creating must be wonderful! I feel the same as you do sweet friend. We are all born to create ~ it may be cooking wonderful meals for our family, or even decorating a cozy home for them, women are instinctively creative spirits ~ what a gift from the Lord! Thanks so much for sharing it all ~ hugs and love, Dawn

  72. Oh, my, Rebbeca!! So much beauty and inspiration in your sweet spot. I could be lost there forever. It looks like SOOO much fun. Ahh, and your testimony as always is such a blessing.

  75. Oh I'm loving the shabby chic rustic feel of your studio! And treasures galore! Oh my thanks so much for sharing it all with us!

  76. what a wonderful magical place you have! thanks for sharing.

  77. Hi Rebecca! Can you believe I I finally made it over here!!! Of course, it was so worth the wait. Your talent for display is amazing! I read your article and look at the pics in the magazine over and over! I would feel like I was in heaven if I were ever able to come visit you! You are able to achieve a look that I love, but have never been able to accomplish, so I guess I will just have to live vicariously through you! Everything was wonderful, but to be honest two of my favorite pics were the first two of your garden! (Blame it on my desert
life). I;m so happy you a part of this years event. It would not have been the same wothout you!

  78. Hi Rebecca,
I found you in the magazine WWC and now to see your studio here. I cannot tell you how much I love it! I was so excited that I even got my husband to look at it with me. I honor your journey. Everything was so beautiful and inviting.

I'm new at blogging and I don't know what I'm doing yet so I appreciated hearing about your early days! Thank you for sharing and the best to you now and always.

    Linda Smith

  79. Can I live there? LOL...you have a beautiful room with beautiful things. Absolutely Lovely!!! I've become a follower.

  80. What wonderful vintage inspiration you have in your space! Love the hanging screen door...

  81. I could ooh and ahhhh over your room all day. Lovely!
That pallet mirror is so cool. And so many other one-of-a-kind things. I had seen it in the magazine but it's nice to see it all again and a little more. Thank you for sharing with us 'mere mortals' haha.

  82. I just love your studio and everything in it. (I think we may have about the same screen door). I want to go create just by visitng! Thanks so much for sharing. Connie

  83. Don't you have the most gorgeous space! What a lovely walk towards your studio... like entering another world. There are so many lovely things to inspire you, but I think the antique dolls/doll forms and the grouping of the palette mirror & your dad's photo are my favorite.

With all those amazing pieces at your disposal, it's no wonder you create such pretty things. :D

I love it when you leave a comment!
Your friendship and visits mean very much to me.
