Good Morning -
It is Sunday and I do not know where the week has gone. I have been trying lately to keep better track of my TIME. I have always been one that just doesn't have any concept of what Time it is, I get lost in the day or what I am doing. Maybe it's because I focus so hard on what I am doing at the Time and I have many things going at once. Sometimes I wonder how I raised 6 children, although I have been known to forget one here and there. My children have good laughs over some of the stories they tell and I just cringe. I don't think they have been scarred to deeply. I have been thinking lately of journaling some of my experiences and thoughts and art and capturing Time... but again there is that Time element.
So I made some, for someone else to put their thoughts down or maybe just give as a gift. If I keep making them maybe one will entice me to start... who knows.
I bought some composition books at Office Max and covered the inside cover with old music sheets and old book pages. I did put pockets on the inside cover with various paper and fabric. I glued it with PVA (bookbinders glue) that I ordered from Dick Blicks. It cuts down on the curling or bending of the cardboard. Then I wrapped it in fabric, in this case with old burlap and embellished the front at will using things I had in the studio.
I had to cut some of my Peonies and bring them into the shop. They fade so quickly and I needed some color with these rainy days we have been having.
My Peony bushes aren't blooming yet but my Peony tree is always early. This year I didn't get as many blooms as last year.
As long as I am on the subject of flowers, I will show you my French lilacs that bloomed earlier. They are long gone now but the fragrance remains in my memory...
I have a hard Time cutting lilacs, they always wilt - no matter what I do... smash the ends, put them in warm water as I am cutting them, even putting sugar in the water doesn't seem to help. Is it the variety???
We have a new family member... meet Oliver.
We rescued him from a shelter in Chicago, we thought Jesse needed a companion. I know it is little boys and puppy dog tails but we are not around enough to raise a puppy now. Cats are a little more independent... Maybe another Time.
We had a Siamese for 18 years, we lost Alex last year. So of course another Siamese tugged at our heart strings.
Siamese cats are very verbal... this one is no exception! If you are not used to a cat that talks constantly... a Siamese is not for you.
It will take a little getting used to again... and it will take Time for Oliver to get used to us. He is 4 years old and his owners had to give him up because of allergies. Poor kitty. He will be loved here.
Well, I better get back to work... I have spent enough Time here and I am running out of Time. If you haven't signed up for my Collage Giveaway please do so, it ends May 20. Just click on my sidebar button for the post.
You don't want to run out of TIME!
Many blessings to you this wonderful Sunday and please take the TIME to leave a comment :)

Ahhh, peonies and lilacs! So special, as are the lovely journals you have created. Have a wonderful week! ~ Angela
ReplyDeleteThe journals look wonderful and would certainly nuture creativity. I wish I could grow peonys, but much too hot down here. Thanks for a bright spot on Sunday. Hugs and a chin scratch for Oliver.
ReplyDeleteYour journals turned out gorgeous! I have made several myself and just haven't taken to the habit of journaling. Love the burlap with lacy trims! I'm having a giveaway on my blog with a journal and a couple other goodies ~ stop by if you're interested!
ReplyDeleteOliver is adorable! My friends have a Siamese and he is a talker! We have a Manx (I think that's how you spell it) and he talks a lot, too. I think "talking" cats are more personable, actually!
Have a wonderful Sunday! I'm so enjoying the sun after it's been hiding for so long now!
Warmly,
Lori
Rebecca, you're journals are just beautiful. I've made some, but all out of papers. Your peopnies are also gorgeous. Mine aren't blooming yet, but I can't wait. I love them.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your weekend.
Kathleen
Rebecca, you create the most beautiful things sweet girl ~ and peonies are my favorite!!!!! I just love the smell...I can't get over the pale pink color of your lilacs, I bet they would be absolutely gorgeous dried! I hope you're having a relaxing Sunday (and I love your new kitty too!) hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteYour journals are beautiful! Everything you do is. When I think of how productive you are, I always wish I could (would) create more. You surround yourself with so much beauty, and it inspires me.
I think Oliver is one very lucky cat. He will be such a wonderful addition to your family. I am so enjoying Ashes being around. I didn't think I would enjoy a cat so much, but I do.
I can hardly believe that your lilacs are already gone. Mine will probably bloom in about three weeks. I have tried every way to cut them too and am never satisfied with their life in a vase. I guess that's why I have so many bushes of them in the garden. I cut new ones everyday during the bloom cycle. I sure miss them when they are gone.
It is so good to always come here and visit my lovely friend! Have a wonderful week ahead.
hugs
Peonies are a favorite of mine too. My grandmother has a peony garden, brick paths between the rows. When it bloomed it was beautiful. Thanks for the memory, love the Journals as well.
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteRebecca, your journals are so lovely...I would hate to mess them up with my hen scratching!
ReplyDeleteThe fountain of youth and time. If someone ever figures out a way to bottle these two, I'll be first in line to buy their entire stock!
Love your flowers. I've never had any luck with lilacs but I think they're just beautiful.
Debbie

LOVE, love, love the journals! Can't wait to see them in person!! I so relate to what you're saying about Time. I think sometimes that I'm always trying to catch up. There's always some project that I should be working on or school work that the kids and I should be doing. I think it's a side effect of homeschooling & owning your own business. Or maybe just being a mom. =) Blessings... Polly
ReplyDeleteCute book! Love the flowers too.
ReplyDeleteI want some in my yard... wonder if I can keep them alive. My thumb is NOT green, that's for sure. :)

Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteI love your journals! They are so beautiful & so 'you'! What a great way to use some lovely scraps. I'm laughing at the thought of you leaving your kids somewhere. I have a couple of stories myself, with 3 the same age I sometimes can't keep up. I'm sure one day they'll be in therapy talking about their bad Mommy. LOL I'm sorry I've been such a bad blogger. I meant to post your giveaway. I've just been really sidelined with health issues. I am so in love with that collage, whoever wins will be one lucky person. Lisa
Awesome books!
ReplyDeleteGreat post all around.
off to see more

Dearest Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteYour posting has blessed me today. Sometimes I wonder what our children will say about me when they are older. We have an 8 year old and the triplets are 5. Often I get swept away in all the details of the day and other times I am able to truly enjoy the moment with them. I don't know how you did it with 6! The grace of God our Father helps me. Also, saying, "I'm sorry" a lot seems to make a difference. We have a puppy and 3 rescued cats. I love the photo of Oliver! Thank you for your boldness in Christ, your creative nature and for putting into words what I feel inside. You are beautiful.
With a happy heart in a busy day,
Rebecca Gibson
Oh my gosh, Rebecca! Your journals are absolutely -gorgeous-! I adore them. Your sweet Mom looks precious. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteSheila
Rebecca amor, I have missed visiting everyone, life right now just feels like it is getting away from me, you know what I mean :) Your new journals are just beautiful....I think I would use one to write lil poems and thoughts as they come into my mind and heart :) It was so nice talking to you, makes me feel like we are in the same room, all I needed was a cup a tea and some madelines to make our visit complete! I hope you have a beautiful weekend amor, get some rest, create some beauty and just make time for you to enjoy your beautiful garden, home & studio :) Besos, Rose
ReplyDeleteOhhh I almost forgot, what beautiful flowers! My Ita would always put an aspirin in the water with the lilacs after she smashed the heck out of the ends with a lil hammer :) But no matter what lilacs we used, this always seemed to work and they would last for days :) Enjoy the beauty that comes from your garden and I hope you share more pictures :) Besos, Rose
ReplyDeleteRebecca,
ReplyDeleteI love the journals you created!!! I'm new here, I just read the article about you in "Where Women Create", and the minute I saw that you had 5 girls and one son, I was drawn in! You see, I, too have 5 daughters and 1 son, except, our girls are ages 15 to 5 and our son is 17 months old. Your creations are are absolutely charming! You've inspired me to remember that I'm not only Mum, but I need to make time for that outlet, it fills my soul. Thank you!!!
Only Because of Jesus,
anne
Kathy and I drove to your shop on Friday...got there around 2:30 and saw that you were closed...we were so sad. Catch up with you next time. Susan
ReplyDeleteRebecca,
ReplyDeleteThe journals are lovely, just gorgeous!! And the peonies...oh, I wish we could grow those out here, but I am afraid they don't care for the heat. I have never seen Lilacs like the ones you photographed...I felt transported back to another time! Thank you for sharing!!

Hi Rebecca! I just found your blog and like your fresh honest voice. I will follow you. I used to keep TIME but now do not by choice and am happier for it.
ReplyDelete♦olive♦
Oh Rebecca I'm amazed at how much you get done with your time. You make me look like a slacker! I've had no time lately to do anything. I think I've forgotten how to post too! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're extra busy now with having been in WWC. So happy for you!!!! you are exactly the person to be in that magazine...super talented and with a heart of gold!
miss you!
