Hello
I have some up and coming events that I need to get ready for so I need to tweak some rooms in my house. I thought I would bring you along. I will show you the before and after pictures and ask for suggestions. I think sometimes using what you have is harder than starting from scratch.
I need to give my kitchen a little face lift.
I am cleaning out the cupboards and rearranging. There are certain things I have been needing to do for some time now.
I have glass doors on my upper cupboards, so I need them to look good. That means every once in while they need to be rearranged and edited.
Moving on to the bottom cupboards, they bug me. They are too big which causes them to hang wrong and they don't close tight.
I have taken them off on the other side of the room and I had put up curtains. I am going to take these off and put curtains up here also.
I am going to take these down and make curtains to match all the way around the kitchen. I am looking at maybe some French linen. What do you think? Any suggestions...
I also need to recover the chairs.
I have some old French rustic linen, I am thinking about to use.
I will be changing the window treatments also. I am looking through my stash of vintage fabric but I haven't decided on what to do yet.
I have an old world look going in there right now with a garden feel because of the table and chairs are an old iron set.
My biggest decision is do I take this arbor out or not? It is from a theater in Texas and it was a stage prop.
I was thinking of putting in a fireplace and maybe an architectural piece above it instead of the arbor.
I am also thinking of changing up my Majolica and trading it for Transferware or Ironstone.
I will keep you posted on my progress and I can always use some suggestions.

I also will not be posting Studio Sundays for awhile as time is an issue.

ReplyDeletefeels so good out my way, getting stuff done..you have more "on your plate" to do though haha (pun intended).
Going by the look in the rooms you have recently done over, I'm voting for linen, x-nay the theater piece ( you have changed, and something wonderful can no longer work) and I vote ironstone or transfer-ware too... Your instincts are right on. All these compliment the style you have developed in the office and cubby space..or as I like to call it - some day I'll hang out there space..lol

First...if your cleaning out your stash id be happy to take donations :)..I like the idea of the linen. I love the curtain idea for the cupboards..if I owned my house and not rented i would consider doing that. i am still "learning" about all the different types of dishes but I LVOE the brown transferware I think is what it is called.

ReplyDeleteYou are up to a big job. And as much as I love all as is, I understand your wishes, for altering.Like the arbor, and the rosy curtains which are both divine, but I know that at certain times, we all wants to see something else.
I do have so difficulties in parting with my things, and thats why I never really come to alter for big--only a little here, and a little, there--:)
I know you will in some time ,show us a most beautiful and special kitchen redo- dear Rebecca.

ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a lot of stuff going on but what fun it is to make changes like that. I would go with the french linen, but I love the rose material you have up now. Is it vintage or new? (Have you seen that book by Kari Meng "The French General" or her website www.frenchgeneral.com She is all about french linens and such) I've been trying to decide if I want a couple of glass doors on my cabinets when I move for the pretty stuff, but I keep wondering if I'm too messy for it!
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to cut that arbor down and make it look like a fireplace mantle? I don't know if that would work or not, but it'd be kind of cool to have a fireplace in the arbor somehow.

ReplyDeleteIf you are getting rid of the arbor and have the room, can you put in baker's rack painted cream or white to display more of your items? Or, I noticed bead board in one of the pics...could you put in bead board paneling on the wall with a chair rail and then hang shelving with iron or architectural supports..that would also give you an interesting wall that would function as a way to display some of the items that may need to be taken out of your glass front cabinets!
No matter what you end up doing..it looks like a lot of fun!

I am excited to se what you do cause I know I will love it!!! I would love to do that with my kitchen, maybe some blackboard paint and some new fabric in soft linen? An architectural feature would look wonderful...I love that idea!

ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, Are you wanting to leave your kitchen cupboards completely clear glass? I have several ideas. I love the idea of the french linen on the lower cabinets especially with the items I see in your upper cabinets. The redos on the chairs is perfect. The arbor stage prop is fab....could it be used in a bathroom or surrounding a bed or desk? I like the idea of the fireplace if you don't need the space for a more functional piece of furnitue. And changing out window treatments is such an easy way to give a room a face lift. Especially when you use your imagination as you do. I can see all that you have in mind and think you are on the right track. I say "GO FOR IT!".

Oh nothing I love more than tweaking and my house sure could use some of that right now. I've had the tweaking bug for about a month but not enough time to do anything about it. I think whatever you do will look glorious and I love the idea about using linen for the curtains. Maybe use the less is more idea for the upper glassed shelves? I know I sure couldn't have them in my house - I don't have enough storage space to keep things as neat as you keep them LOL As for the stage prop arch - have you thought about painting it and maybe putting some lathe (sp?) strips on it? Maybe a small table or shelf beneath the piece you already have on the wall? I can't wait to see the after pictures - do be sure and share them. Hugs!

I love the material you want to use instead of the cubbord doors, I think that is what I may do..................I also love how you have arranged the dishes I like that look a lot. The iron chairs are to die for.............covering them will give them a nice face lift. Hope all is well. Hugs Mary

ReplyDeleteWas on Moms blog and saw that you are looking for rustic shelving not bigger than 3 feet - I will be at the sale and my have just what you are looking for. Similar to mine in Fifi's book if you saw that only smaller - made from reclaimed barnwood.

you have great thing & a beautiful feel in your home, very cottagey, vintagy gardeney.. oh but I know all those collections can get a litte cluttery right. My move recently forced me to clean out most of my stuff & wanting a cleaner look..easier to take care of too. I say yes to linen covers. You have great pieces keep them just add more & less creamy colored dishes, & a cramy mantel..Fifi'f guest cottage in her new book is my favorite..go there for inspiration.. I know anything you do will be incrediable. looking foward to your results. xo Laura

ReplyDeleteHave you thought about using the arbor as a backdrop for a fire place??? just find an old porch post or long piece of rescued molding that you could use as a mantel!I'll bet if you check your stash you'll find something...
