Playing with the morning light... I love the sun from the east. It comes into my dining room and lights up my dishes like jewels. This morning I couldn't resist shooting it from my little snap and shoot camera, I don't claim to be a photographer-so please don't judge.

Dirty winter windows :(
This is a Victorian wedding center piece, I have posted it before. It is made of all white linen flowers.
This compote was a fabulous reticulated old creamware piece that one of my daughters broke when she was young. I foolishly had it sitting on my coffee table at the time and it got knocked off. I came home to it sitting on the kitchen table all glued together with some peices sitting next to it. My daughter spent the afternoon trying to fit the pieces together, afraid of the consequences when I got home. After the initial shock and nausea subsided I put it away. Some years later I found it again, after all the babies were gone and I smiled... it is now one of my favorite pieces and it sits in a place of honor with the rest of the dishes.

LOVED the story about the broken dish. so very sweet. funny how what once seemed such a disaster can..years later..be a sweet reminder of what really matters in life! Also..your photos of the sunshine on your glass collection are stunning!

ReplyDeleteI have a story of a broken item too! My daughter was in 4H and had to nail items to a board. Well she used my cutting board as a backer. When she realized what she did, she got on her bike and took her piggy bank money and rode to a nearby little store and bought me a new cutting board. She thought she would be in trouble. I have a much bigger and nicer board now, but that one will always be in my kitchen.....it is such a precious memory for me, as is your broken dish!!

Rebecca you have the most beautiful collection of white in this post. I love all the white china and dishes you have. The pictures of the light coming through and reflecting off your glassware are lovely. I just love it when the sun streams through the windows and makes everything new to our eyes. That sideboard in the picture is to die for gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Sunlight on crystal always makes me smile, it is like a "happy dance" of light. The Victorian piece is amazing. I would love to see the original post on that. I can relate to the broken dish and your precious daughter trying to glue it all back together. My daughter flew to her grandmother's for vacation with her sister. They were around 8 and 10. My mom gave her a dish that was my grandmother's to bring home to me. Well it broke on the plane trip. My daughter was so upset as my grandmother was just so precious to me. I took my daughter in my arms and used that broken plate as an example of HIS love for us. HE loves us all broken and in pieces and makes us all new. My daughter is 36 now and reading about your precious daughter brought a smile and a little tear of memory. Children as such precious gifts. Glad you kept your beautiful "broken" dish. So did I.

I'm drooling over all the stacks of dishes on your sideboard and the way the natural light illuminates it all. Your point and shoot is much better then you think. Using natural light is the best. I rarely ever use my flash anymore.
